Advancing mental health equity

In late 2024 we launched Community Care at Spring Health, a program designed to advance mental health equity by addressing social determinants of health (SDOH).

The initiative integrated screening for social needs, connected individuals to community resources (e.g. food, housing, childcare), and augmented traditional mental health services to deliver holistic, personalized, equitable care across all 50 states. In 2025, resources were expanded and available to our international members as well.

Challenge

Many people face unmet social needs, like food insecurity, housing instability, and childcare or transportation challenges, that directly affect their mental health. Even when support exists, barriers such as difficulty finding resources, navigating systems, and stigma often prevent access. These challenges deepen inequities for historically marginalized groups, while organizations and health systems lack visibility into how social needs impact outcomes, productivity, and overall wellbeing.

To address these challenges, Spring Health launched Community Care with the goal of bridging the gap between mental health and social support. The initiative aims to integrate social needs screening into care, connect members with verified local resources across all 50 states, and empower individuals with both self-service tools and guided support. By bringing together data, community partnerships, and compassionate design, the program seeks to advance mental health equity, improve outcomes, and help organizations better understand and respond to the social factors that shape wellbeing.
